Having watched a few children opening their birthday presents of late I noticed the surprise and excitement on their faces when they see what is inside, then ten minutes later they are sat in the box, “it’s a boat”, “it’s a hat”, “I’m a robot”, “it’s a drum”, “I’m hiding!”
It’s great to give our children lovely things but I think it’s all too easy to forget that we need to help them develop their imagination.
So many toys these days are so real that they are not allowing the child to imagine and it takes out the ” lets pretend” that is so important to a child’s development, making them grow up too quickly.
How will you encourage your child’s imagination today?
How right you are Rachel. They need to be out in nature and grow and respect all that is around them. It is so important isn’t it to learn how to protect all this beauty that is on our doorstep.
Children also like to have stories read to them and to have art materials around them. so that they can develop their artistic talents. After all we are all artists. This encourages the right hand side of our brain to develop into compassion and care and selflessness.
I would recommend studying the ethos of Rudolph Steiner and how he talks of the development of the full human being. He was a very interesting person and a person for all time.
Lots of love Rachel. Ann xx
